6th Annual AMP Outlaw Winter Nationals
November 8, 2008
Harrah, Oklahoma – OK Corral Indoor Arena
Collins, Bostic, Osburn score wins at OKC
129 racers representing 3 states battled atop the Indoor clay oval track at the historic OK Corral Saturday night. In the Pro Pit Bike class Chance Osburn took the honors winning the NOS Energy Drink Dash for Cash.
The race was the third of fourteen rounds of competition slated for the ‘08- ’09 season for the AMP OWN indoor short track series. This annual point series is held from October until April each year, and is open to all ages. Fifteen divisions of classifications including Youth, Modern Expert, Amateur and Vintage are then divided by rider’s ability and by engine size.
With mid 50 degree temps, 9 riders in two qualifying heat races attempted to qualify for six spots in the night’s Dash For Cash sponsored by NOS Energy Drink. Chance Osburn from Chandler, Oklahoma swept the Pro Pit Bike field the entire night taking the checkers in all three paying events including the NOS DFC, and the 10” and 12” Xtreme Mains.
125/250 A was packed full of up returning class high point champs including Justin Elswick. Elswick wearing a super nice looking helmet painted by Pro Hemlet Designs from Tulsa took the win over defending AMP OWN Champ Peyton Simpson. Following a re-start that involved several riders going down, the race was on. Peyton Simpson, held on to defeat the defending 08 Champ brother Dylan Simpson, to win the Open A division taking the gold back to Chandler, Oklahoma.
Open Pro Singles class saw Jeff Bostic making a charge to the lead at the green light start and holding off all contenders to take the win. Brian Collins was back aboard the Green Machine Kawasaki and had a tremendous battle for second place with Chance Osburn down to the final checkered flag of the night.
Wesley Collins, the AMP Outlaw Winter Nationals Overall #1 High Point Champion topped the field in both the 65 and 85 class keeping his perfect score running again this indoor season.
Sponsors for the event include Budweiser, Motorcycle Events Magazine, Atwoods Ranch and Home, Daley’s Speed Shop, FMF of So. California, Twin Air Filters, Moto Master Brake Systems, NOS Energy Drink, Ozarka Water, Frank’s Trailers, Jamil’s Steak House, City Electric, Fast Break-Phillips 66, Harbor Freight Tools, and Light Shoe.

6th Annual AMP Outlaw Winter Nationals
November 8, 2008
Harrah, Oklahoma – OK Corral Indoor Arena
Kiester, Long, Tracy score wins at OKC
The Pot-Belly Stove at the OK Corral Indoor Arena was not the only source of heat for round #3 of the 14 race 6th Annual AMP Outlaw Winter Nationals Indoor Short Track Point Series. The series in it's sixth year of existence has grown to a new level for this year's competition. With full starting grids, and action filled qualifying heat races down to the handlebar to handlebar battles for the finish, the series which features 4 divisions including ATVs, Motorcycles, Modified Hot Rod Mowers and Dirt Champ Karts has something for everyone.
This night three big names in Youth ATVA Racing were entered on the starting grids for the nights racing action. Those included two riders out of the neighboring state of Arkansas, known for it's fast kids on both Dirt Track and TT course racing. Along with team Kiester was another top rider in ATVA, Kacee Frazier out of Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Garrett Kiester and his sister Darion Kiester from Arkansas blasted into the OK Corral Indoor arena on Saturday night to face off with another new comer to the AMP Outlaw Winter Nationals Indoor Short Track Point Series Kacee Frazier. All three of these racers have built a long list of accomplishments racing ATVs across the Nation. ATV Riders dot com. Kacee Frazier has 3 Number one plates from 2007. Nominated for and was runner up at the Las Vegas AMA Awards for Athlete of the year award.
There is no "Powder Puff" classes offered in this full out competition, which matches girls against boys atop the clay/sand mixed surface inside the historic rodeo arena located 20 miles east of downtown Oklahoma City. The first races held at the building occurred in 1972, the late Randy Cleek from nearby Shawnee, Oklahoma took the final checkered flag in the first-ever Open Pro race held at the venue. Cleek, who rode for K&N Yamaha and Bel Ray Oil, competed in International competition on dirttrack and later in his short career in Road Racing.
The Quads hit the track running in the main events as the fans in the stands witnessed several close finishes including youngester Tre'than Lee defeating Hayden Franklin in the BB Pee Wee class; Dakota Powell besting Brayden O Hagan in the Pee Wee Advanced class; Logan Yelton taking the win iover Daniel Lee and Bailey Hughes. The Arkansas racer Garrett Kiester showed his style by out running AMP top of the class contender Cody Yelton and hard charger Evan Edgender in the hotly contested 95 Mod class. The stage was set for some exciting racing to unfold for the packed grandstands.
What may sound like a small grid for an outdoor large track equates to near track saturation on the tight indoor with nine riders staged for the Main event in the Blaster class. This class is comprised of Yamaha Blasters for which it was named years ago, but also includes up to 300cc four strokes today. Again, the Arkansas based racer Garett Kiester came out charging, but was soon relegated back to fourth spot. Crowd favorite Tristan McElyea and Darion Kiester battled for second spot with Nathan Wells who started outside the poll position taking the lead. They finished in that order, but not without a few slide jobs and racer's strategy during the contest. Kacee Frazier struggled to finish ninth suffering from a worn clutch, which happened during her qualifying heat race. A "Rider Needs" announcement made following the heat race for a new clutch retrieved no replacement parts at the meet.
The NOS Energy Drink Dash For Cash 50/50 Ticket jackpot was taken home back down the Turnpike to Tulsa by Marcie Long following a Red Flag halt while working lap 2. By AMA Sports rules a full restart was called, with offending riders that caused the red being placed on the penalty line. Long led it from green to checkered to take home his share of $300 paid in the DFC races Saturday.
Time for the Expert riders to take center stage and showcase their talent. Two-time and defending point champ in the 250 class Honda mounted Ada, Oklahoma's Gary Rhodes placed his high-tech machine on the starting line. Beside him sat Tulsa based rider Thomas Tracy along with Colgate Oklahoma rider Nico Lee. A grid of seven took the green light and the battle was on. Tracy was able to get a grip of thepacked sealed over surface and move forward to take the win over Lee followed by Rhodes.
Open Pro Quads thundered the rafters in the 36 yr-old building blasting off when the green lights blinked for the final Quad race of the meet. Two rows of four with a final lone rider on the back row saw all nine racers flying into turn one. Tulsa was represented again by two riders, Mike McLendon and Marcie Long in this final race. Long was flat-out flying aboard his faithful Yamaha Banshee, a bad to the bone full blown Quad built by Red Daley from Daley's Speed Shop and sponsored by Eric's Off Road. Tracy chased Long lap after lap, only to see the Banshee moving further ahead of Tracy's Honda. McKinney and McLendon held on for third and forth at the checker flag.

6th Annual AMP Outlaw Winter Nationals Rnd # 6
Inaugural Ed Daley “Tribute to Life” Classic
Harrah, Oklahoma - OK Corral Indoor Arena
By: Bob Oertle
Tulsa’s A. J. Eslick takes Eddy Daley Tribute Classic Open Pro Singles Main Event ~ Danny Eslick wins the Dash For Cash - Bardaro Thunders the Twins
120 Entries competed during the sixth round of the 14 race 5th Annual AMP Outlaw Winter Nationals Short Track series held in conjunction with the Eddy Daley “Tribute to Life” Classic. Reunions of 70’s racers developed into a memorable event for all. A field of 8 Pro Singles riders with 3.75- Inch Machine Guns firing at 5,000 rounds per minute shook the rafters in the historic OK Corral Indoor Arena Saturday night. The battle lines were drawn for the late Eddy Daley commemorative race. Eddy was one of the nation's top novice racers and had moved into his Junior-Year of professional motorcycle dirt track racing. Daley, was injured during the Randy Cleek Memorial race at State Fair Speedway in Oklahoma City and arrived for emergency surgery in good condition, but suffered a problem during the procedure which ended his racing career and disabled the young racer who was entering the prime of his career. Daley lived a long portion of his life in a rest home and passed away from natural causes last Thanksgiving.
Eddy Daley, son of Joanna and Red Daley came to Oklahoma from Riverside California in the early 1970s. Red worked with K&N Engineering, the company that first introduced worlds famous K&N Air Filter. Norm and Lucy McDonald purchased the original pleating machine design from a mechanic that worked at Bobby J’s Yamaha in Phoenix, Arizona. Kenny Johnson the K in K&N and Norm McDonald the N in the namesake along with Red Daley perfected the design vulcanizing rubber mounts on either end to adapt to motorcycle style carburetors. The McDonalds sold their K&N Yamaha dealership to Malcolm Smith after they had opened another K&N Yamaha store in Tulsa, Oklahoma and moved there along with the Nichols, Daleys and others in their business from California.
Among the Dignitaries of Dirt on hand for the tribute race were Eddy Daley’s niece Nikki Smith, Greg Bowman, Scott Adams, Denny Sowders, Orbin Adams, Kawasaki’s Ronnie Jones, World of Outlaw Director Shane Carson. Bull Haynie, Frank Bardaro, Davey Strong, Jay Lawson, Dave Burleigh, Casey Carpenter, Jerry Cartwright among others who raced with or enjoyed watching the late Eddy Daley.
Bill Lewis, who traveled from Alaska for the event, slept over at the arena due to a mechanical problem with his van. Lewis stood at the gate to the arena floor and remarked, “when we raced here in the early 1970s the track looked more like this referring to how the track appeared after the tractor had torn up the packed groomed track than the way it was during the race tonight.”
It was Edmond, Oklahoma’s Wesley Collins, last year's AMP Overall Point Champ taking the win in the 65-A class over Frankie Bardaro and Tony Opichka. Collins suffered a crash in the 85-A class handing the win over to Trey Munday with Harrah, Oklahoma's Frankie Bardaro taking second and newcomer to this class Choctaw’s Tony Opichka finishing third. Payton Simpson, a previous two time AMP OWN Champ, experienced engine woes with his super nice Honda 250, and was unable to make the start in the 125/250 A contest. It was Mike Fuller over Jeff Muehlhausen aboard his Yamaha in the final.
Davis Newby led Casey Collins and Wade Goodall lto the finish line taking the final checks and the win in the PW BB defeating all challengers. Two “My First Race” trophies are named after Katie Medrano and are awarded to youth class racers who enter their first race in their career at the AMP OWN series. Those have become one of the most cherished trophies for the youth class division.

Volunteers had the oak-firewood burning in both the Pot-Belly Stove and the Double Barrel Heaters and both were aglow at the OK Corral Indoor Arena, but neither were a match for what was to unfold tonight. Battle lines were drawn atop the clay oval for round 6 of the 14 race 6th Annual AMP Outlaw Winter Nationals Indoor Short Track Point Series. The series in it's sixth year of existence has grown to a new level for this year's competition seeing several new racers and teams joining the fun at the historic OK Corral Indoor Arena.
The point chase closed up again in the Blaster 300 and the 85 youth divisions with full starting grids for the Main Events. Racers battled atop the cushion clay/sand mixed surface inside the historic OK Corral Indoor rodeo arena, which began hosting races in 1972. The arena is located 20 miles east of downtown Oklahoma City four miles north of Interstate I-40 at exit 172 the Harrah/Newalla Road. When the smoke cleared it was Logan Yelton defeating repeat winner Baliey Hughes the hotly contested 85-A class. With Franike Bardaro sporting a new set of suspenders on his quad taking home second spot. Hughes came with back to back wins defeating Yelton in the 95 class, taking home the gold. Local popular racer Tristian McElyea out gunned all comers in the Blaster class with Cody Yelton taking second with Mike Bland finishing third in the class.
Sean O'Hagan got his first win taking out two time winner Donnie Foster with Stephen Grimes landing in third spot in the 250-A Quad class. Open A saw O'Hagan take the checkers over Stephen Grimes and Kyle Myers.
Tulsa based Jason Sperry, who had a complete sweep in round 4, struggled in the NOS Energy Drink DFC, with Ada's Gary Rhodes taking the money back down the turnpike to Ada in round 5 came back tonight to another big win in the NOS Energy Drink DFC, and a win the 250 Pro division. Sperry's best finish of the night came in the 250 Pro class with a win over Billy McKinney and Gary Rhodes. Billy McKinney had no problem with tonight's tacky track surface as he found the set-up and outran the field in the Open Pro Class.
The youth Quad division riders hit the track running in the main events as the fans in the stands witnessed several close finishes including youngster Brayden O'hagan outgunning Tre'Than Lee in the PW BB class, Dakota Powell won the PW-A class. Logan Yelton took the hotly contested Youth 85-A win over Frankie Bardaro who had his best finish of the 85-A class in the series, and two strong competitors Bailey and Jaiden Hughes. Bailey came back to win the 95 Mod division over last rounds winner Cody Yelton and Cole Hocker finishing in an impressive third spot.
Open Pro Quads thundered the rafters again in the 36 yr-old building blasting off when the green lights blinked for the final Quad race of the meet which was won by local-racer Billy McKinney.
The growing sponsor list for the series includes, Lightshoes, Cycle 1, Atwoods Ranch and Home, Daley’s Speed Shop, FMF of So. California, Twin Air Filters, Moto Master Brake Systems, 7 UP, Ozarka Water, Frank’s Trailers, Daddy Hinkles Steaks, Jamil’s Steak House, Marriott Lawton, Holiday Inn MWC, Quick Break Phillips 66, Oklahoma Carpet and Tile, A&A Yamaha, Country Boy Stores, Harbor Freight Tools.

Adams Racing Stable's Bret Sowders takes Open Pro Singles Main Event ~ Bryan Collins wins NOS Energy Drink DFC
Half way through the point series the racing action always heats up, and this sixth year is no exception. An emergency repair of a transmission on Payton Simpson's Honda Crf 250, a borrowed engine for one team, traded motorcycle for another were common events heading into the half-way mark. 95 Entries competed to a packed crowd during the 1/2 way point in round number seven of the 14 race 5th Annual AMP Outlaw Winter Nationals Short Track point series held in conjunction with the Eddy Daley “Tribute to Life” Classic. A record field of 9 Pro Singles riders created smiles on the fans in the historic OK Corral Indoor Arena Saturday night. This was night number two of the triple-header holiday three weekend race meet.
The Open Pro Main Event came down to a two-state challenge between Oklahoma and Kansas. Kansas represented by Colt Chebultz out of Manhattan, Kansas, Michael Toon and just turned pro Nick Toon from the Kansas City area.
Local favorites Bret Sowders, Bryan Collins, Jerry Cartwright, and Hunter King set the pace for the main event by finishing in the top transfer positions of the two Pro Singles heat races. That took four to the NOS Energy Drink Dash For Cash. Bryan Collins aboard his mean green Kawasaki let the good times roll in the DFC taking the four-lap dash and the cash up the highway to Edmond, Oklahoma with Cartwright placing second.
It was Edmond, Oklahoma’s Casey Collins taking another win in the Pee Wee BB class over Training Wheel equipped Wade Goodall and Whispern Smith Jr. Wesley Collins, last year's AMP Overall Point Champ took the win in the 65-A class over Frankie Bardaro, and Tony Opichhka. Collins went for the lead in the 85-A class, but lost the front end heading around Trey Munday going into turn three. The red flagged race was called a race on the white flag lap, handing the win to Trey Munday with Chandler, Oklahoma's Weston Simpson in second spot and Harrah, Oklahoma's Frankie Bardaro in thrid. Payton Simpson, a previous two time AMP OWN Champ, won the 125/250 A contest over multi-time AMP Champ, AMA Red Bull Rookies Cup contender, and Five State 85 Champion Austin Medrano. Medrano came back in the Open A class to outrun all comers by a half a straightaway at the checkered flag.
Wade Goodall led Casey Collins to the finish line taking the final checks and the win in the PW BB defeating all challengers. Two “My First Race” trophies are named after Katie Medrano and are awarded to youth class racers who enter their first race in their career at the AMP OWN series. Those have become one of the most cherished trophies for the youth class division.
Thanks to Danny Pressnall owner of Pro Helmet Designs, AMA GNC Tuner Garry Baheler, OCRS Sprint Car driver Ronnie Murphey, retired Speedway Motorcycle racer Harpo, and 600 Vintage racer Kevin Ellingsworth for their time and donations towards the second Double-Barrel Heater for the pit area at the OK Corral.
Sponsors for the series: NOS Energy Drink; Cycle 1; Atwoods Ranch and Home; Daley’s Speed Shop; FMF of So.
