The location of that race was the SHNF near willis tx. The trail system is open to all with proper tags on their bikes. Check out the TRH webiste here. There is additional info. http://www.trh-cycle.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=category&sectionid=6&id=24&Itemid=56

From Austin it is about 3.5hr travel time.

3BallzEmpty, come to SHNF (same place Caney Creek was) on 12/07 for the TRH family enduro.
If you have never done an enduro try this one out, The morning loop is kid friendly (adults ride that loop as well) and the afternoon is geared for the "go-fast" big boys and girls!

3 hours (+ -) from Austin.

details on website: http://www.trh-cycle.org/

Google maps says it is 183 miles from Cedar Park to New Waverly,TX. About 3 hours and 31 minutes according to them. Thats if you go through Bryan. I tried to copy the link over here, but it didn't all take for some reason. Probably user error.
If you like the Sam Houston National Forest enough, then it's not too far.

Got Lost leaving Outlaw once, and turned right on, I think, 149 then made a left on, I think, Hwy 90 and came out on Hwy 6 near Hempstead near 290. This is probably the back way into the National Forest, but I bet it would be alot quicker than going through Bryan/College Station, Houston or Madisonville!
