I've been thinking the same thing. I was going to place the ac unit inside the tent with the exhaust stuck through the door opening while it set in a hot water heater pan. This would let the water drip into the pan and run it through a hose to some place away from the tent. I also though I may have a zipered hole in just big enough to fit the ac unit...

been there, done that! here's the deal. you need a tent with 2 doors. put the window unit in one of the doorway's and duct tape up to seal around unit and use the other too get in and out of. take 2 or 3 extra blankets to put over the top of tent. we had our's at 64 degree's in the middle of july with a 5500 btu unit. i have a pic, but the file is to large to load.

I have also used an AC in a tent and it was way better than sleeping in the heat. If you have a small tent you can use a window. Set the ac on a cooler or crate to get it at the right height then duct tape to the window. I like the blankets for insulation, great idea. My tent was not well enough insulated so if the compressor cycled off it got hot quickly.
I now have a popup and really it is pretty much the same insulation as a tent and the ac works fine especially at night.
and of course please take a photo.

that's it. a 5500 btu unit only pulls about 6 amps at start and 4 or so at run. you do not need a really big gen. 100 watts = 1 amp. we also take a small microwave and eletric can opener and a setup of lights. it's hell being poor and have to a/c a tent, but it works good. there may be another pic on that other forum if you look. ENJOY! kurt
