Anyone with ideas or comments about using a 110v AC unit and generator to cool a tent? I'm getting ready to go to the gatorbait enduro and don't mind riding in the heat, I just don't want to sleep in it.

I've been thinking the same thing. I was going to place the ac unit inside the tent with the exhaust stuck through the door opening while it set in a hot water heater pan. This would let the water drip into the pan and run it through a hose to some place away from the tent. I also though I may have a zipered hole in just big enough to fit the ac unit...

been there, done that! here's the deal. you need a tent with 2 doors. put the window unit in one of the doorway's and duct tape up to seal around unit and use the other too get in and out of. take 2 or 3 extra blankets to put over the top of tent. we had our's at 64 degree's in the middle of july with a 5500 btu unit. i have a pic, but the file is to large to load.

this is the first positive info I've gotten so far, after doing quite a bit of internet searching, but of course a fellow TON guy is here to help out! thanks! .... still trying to see that photo though .... had to register first, but the photo section still isn't available to me, yet. What size generator were you running for the 5k ac unit? It's only monday, so I still have time to get this together before the gatorbait enduro ....... hopefully!

I have also used an AC in a tent and it was way better than sleeping in the heat. If you have a small tent you can use a window. Set the ac on a cooler or crate to get it at the right height then duct tape to the window. I like the blankets for insulation, great idea. My tent was not well enough insulated so if the compressor cycled off it got hot quickly.

I now have a popup and really it is pretty much the same insulation as a tent and the ac works fine especially at night.

and of course please take a photo.

that's it. a 5500 btu unit only pulls about 6 amps at start and 4 or so at run. you do not need a really big gen. 100 watts = 1 amp. we also take a small microwave and eletric can opener and a setup of lights. it's hell being poor and have to a/c a tent, but it works good. there may be another pic on that other forum if you look. ENJOY! kurt
