I have a 5250 btu in the back window of my 89 chevy conv. van that I bought at wally world for 89 buck's that is a dripless uint. It has a slinger fan that blow the cond. throw the uint so no drip's no mud.
For the gen. I have a 2500 watt that I got from pep boy's for less then 200 buck's.Last year at Katemcy in aug. we slept under a sleeping bag on a 100 degree night. Parked in the sun on a 100 degree day I have the temp. at 60 degree's(it get's to cold sometime's) I know it's not a tent that should give you some info. on how it work's. I also run light's, 27" tv,dvd player, toaster oven, fan's out side an so far the gen. has had no problem's keeping up with the load.

i know this is an old post but I wanted to add another positive for the tent thing. We spent a week in Ponca City racing with a tent and a 2500w genny. I hung a gas can in a tree and put a 1/4" barb epoxied on the bottom and fed a hose to the gen fuel line. we could run a solid 7 hours on a tank of gas. In the day it was too hot to hang out in the tent but at night it was so cold we had to zip up the sleeping bags. Our tent was open on the top. Should have used the extra blanket idea.
We weren't the coolest guys in the pits...but at least we were cool.

its funny that you bring this back to life. me and my buddy were talking the other day about this again. we had to get a gen small enough to carry in the canoe and the a/c. i hope the canoe does not tip over??? he got one of those little 2 cycle gen kicking out 1000 watts or so, more then enough to run a 5000 btu unit. i think it would also carry a light or something else at the same time. may have to get up and refuel, but i'm more then sure someone will have to take a LEAK in the middle of the night, so they will have to refill it at that time. the cover of the top of the tent really works good. tents tend to suck up the heat from the sun rays. we were out a few months ago and i layed down for a few in the heat of the day and was burning up/ so i get a blanket and covered the tent on the side the sun was beating on and it knocked out all of the heat from the suns rays. it was still hot, but not like the sun was beating right on you. we are making a trip to the lake at the end of this month and will be CHILLIN out in the A/C'ed tent. if you happen to see up, come soak up some a/c and a cold one. have a good day

Time to raise this thread again.

If you don't want to stuff your AC in a doorway, check out the AC Boot - a bit on the pricey side and you could probably DIY, but here it is.

I guess this idea isn't all that crazy then huh? .....

but I just put cash down on an all aluminum 6x12 enclosed trailer so now I'm about to go a different direction. I'm moving up suckers, well, at least one rung on the ladder. a far cry from all those rv-er types and I'll never ever get to there, oh well,
...... now to hang my ac unit out one of my doors so I don't have to cut any holes, that is until I know where I'm gonna be real happy with such an installation. I gotta drive (out of texas) to go pick up this trailer on the 7th of July. oh yeah!

but I'll still be keeping my tent, and using it as necessary. I'll have a pretty nice base camp now! though camping out of the jeep with just my hammock works out pretty darn good too!
