I have read elsewhere on the net that you can register (off-road, non-licensable) bikes in Vermont and they will send you back a plate and a 2-year inspection sticker. Is this one of those internet myths? Has anyone actually done this? Anyone have the actual address or where to call???

What are you trying to register? I've got an XR650R registered, and I know of at least one other one. Is it a motocrosser or something?

I haven't seen this, but I don't doubt it may be true. Many states issue green stickers for dirtbikes and atvs. I'll be on the lookout now though.

It's a DRZ, off-road version. I could spend $400 on a Baja kit, and have all that extra stuff hanging on the bike to break off(been there on previous 3 bikes), but I would rather not. I only ride on the road occasionally, but like to at least have the appearance of being legal.

I almost chose one of those DRZs, but I'll spend enough time on the road to justify the weight and extra cc's of the 650. The DRZ would have been a better woods bike for sure, that 650 is a big hoss when it's going slow.

What you need to do is find out which state is the most lenient, then you can rent a closet there and claim that as your residence! Maybe you have a long-forgotten relative in one of the more lenient states whose address you can use? I remember reading somewhere that one of those northwestern states like Montana or something would license even a motocrosser for the road if it had the minimum equipment required.

Here's a question for the EPA... How many two-stroke, barely-street-legal dirtbikes would it take to equal one eighteen wheeler in emissions? It shouldn't be as hard as it is to get a dirtbike certified street legal.

Keep us posted on your progress. I'd guess a lot of people would like to know how it comes out.
