I was hoping to get some information. I would like to ride in the New Waverly area next weekend. It looks like Kelly's pond is the only place to camp and ride into the park. I have never been there before and had a few questions. Can I get a 26' travel trailer back there? Also does it have electrical? Toilets etc? Is this in the National Forest? If not do they allow open camp fires? I was hoping to understand more about the trail permits as well. Do I need one? If so is there a bike inspection? I do have a spark arrestor. Is the area mostly wooded or can you find rocks/sand too?

Sorry for all the questions, but anyhelp would be appreciated. I have been riding at the red river for a while now and just want some new trails.

Thanks,

David

Yes.
No.
Yes,no showers.
Yes.
No. OK to BBQ though.
Yes. You can buy a day permit for each rider over the age of 16 years. These are available when you drive through the gate. An annual pass can be bought at the Ranger Station for $25.
Yes.
Mostly dirt and sand with lots of roots. No rocks.
Trail maps are available within the TRH forums or the www.trh-cycle.org

Check out the Cagle Campground while you're there, on the left after you pass the Ranger Station.
Really nice with full hookups. No trail access though.

The 2006 Caney Creek National Enduro will be held on these same trails.

Have fun.
I'll be up there on Sunday.

I know you mentioned the Cagle campground, but no trail access. Is it close enough to push your bikes across to the park? I just wondered if people where doing that sort of thing. I am sure the Rangers whatch it pretty close.

Thanks again for all your help,

David

Pretty good push, but I would guess less than 1/2 a mile to where the trail crosses 1375. Check it out as you go by. Sign will be posted on hiway where the bikes cross the hiway.

If your bike is not street legal you also need the TX state "off highway vehicle program" sticker to ride on public land. Don't for your spark arrestor.
