it depends on what you will be running... if you have an a/c you would want atleast a 3500w. Also those plug in ceramic heaters are usually 1500 watts. My 3500 watt generator will run the 1500 watt heater all night on 3.5 gallons of gas. The fridge doesn't seem to make that much difference. I got the generator at pep boys for $319, but now it is on sale for $279.

Ohm's Law P=E X I {Watts = voltage X current}

If you have two of these factors you can find the sum.

118 volts is the norm. Locate the devices you want to operate with a generator and add up the amps they will pull. Some devices have a surge pull like motors on furnaces and AC units so that needs to be a factor as well.

I have a pop up as well and I did like Tom. I got one of those 3500w chinese units from Pep Boys and couldn't be happier. Very efficient and quite.

The inverter in the camper is rated at 15 amps and we run the furnace, lights, TV and fridge at the same time with hardly any load on the generator.

As far as the batteries, I have a 650 cca deep cycle battery and the truck charges it while on the way to our destination. Plus it keeps the fridge running while I tow. If you are just running the battery say at night and the heater runs it down the generator can be used to recharge it.
