Hey Guys, I have a question on my wife Blaster.
She blew her top end, Piston basicly exploded!!!
I have had the Cylinder Bored out and the head cleaned, got a
new piston kit ready to install.
Checking everything while apart, it seems some metal pieces got into the
bottom end when it froze up. Bottom end looks and feels good, but I can see
some metal fragments in there. What is the easiest way to clean all that out?
I thought of turning it upside down, shooting a water hose up there to clean it out then
filling the bottom end with PREMIX to clean out the water and coat eveything, then I thought,
the last thing I want is water in there !!! HAHAHA !! Could I fill with premix, slosh it around
dump it, then maybe use a squirt bottle with premix to squirt around, knock stuff out?
Any ideas would help so maybe I do not have to tear apart the bottom end !!!!

Thanks Guys, Dr D

You really need some pressure to do it. I'm not sure the squirt bottle would be enough. I would be more inclined to use the pressure washer followed by the premix route.

you don't want to hear this but the safest way is to split the cases. On a KTM you can set the motor clutch side down, I think, and split the cases without all the internals falling out. Then you can accurately clean it up and have confidence your bottom end won't let go in the near future.

If the motor isn't out, remove it. Take your idea with the premix oil, but mix it with your gas like you normally would. Pour it in the bottom end, flip the engine over. Do it till you think it's fine. Your last pour could be on a simple white piece of paper to check for tiny shiny metal pieces almost like dust. Keep rinsing until it is gone.

I agree with jamman, except get a white shop rag (old t-shirt) pour the premix out of the motor through the shop rag. If you have a magnet drag that across the shop rag and look for small particles. Also, fill the bottom end with the fuel mixture tip it to all possible angles without dumping the gas out while rotating crank via the rod, this will help loosen any other pieces that might be stuck.

Repeat until the magnet does not collect any metal particles. Inspect with a flashlight and call it good.

the best way to do it is to split the cases. i worked a shop at tiger racing for a couple of years and time and time again we told the customers we need to split the cases to really clean the metal out. but they want to save a couple of bucks and not do it. so what ends up happening is so of the metal fragments get into the bearings and casue them to heat up and freeze your bearing. and trust that way more costly then a new top end.
