there are a lot of places to stay on the Guadaloupe River outside of town, on River Road. Do a search for "New Braunfels camping". We stayed at the Rockin' R near the 1st crossing last summer, it was good, campsites on a bluff overlooking the river, but gets pretty muddy if it rains. This year we stayed at River Ridge (Rio Raft Company). You can't see the river from the campground, it's about 50-100 yards away. Lots more grass, though, less mud. It's near the 4th crossing, so it's pretty far from NB. The river was closed for 3 days when we were there 2 weeks ago, due to high water. Schlitterbahn was open, and not too crowded, spent 2 days there.
